RPM Chicagoland attendees are being invited to three off-site opportunities the week of the conference.

First, Des Plaines Hobbies is a pilgrimage that can’t be missed while you’re in Chicago for the RPM Conference. This year, the hobby shop is making it easy to pick the right time for a visit, as they will remain open after-hours on Saturday, October 22 and host RPM attendees with free food and drink (first come, first served!). The shop will be open from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, but you must bring your RPM name badge in order to gain admittance to the otherwise closed store. This is the RPM After Party, and Ron might have a few tricks up his sleeve (or specials to be had!).

Second, two local layouts will be open for operating sessions:

O Scale Milwaukee Road
Ted Schnepf will once again host an operating session for RPM attendees on Sunday, October 25th, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The Milwaukee Road prototype based, O scale layout features 900 feet of mainline running freight and passenger trains at a relaxed pace. No experience is necessary. You will see many scratch build and resin models of freight cars on the layout. You can sign up for a slot via email to railsunl@sbcglobal.net, or catch Ted at the Rails Unlimited Booth at the show.

HO Scale N&W Pocahontas Division
RPM Attendees are invited to the HO scale Pocahontas Division of the N&W layout by Mike Ritschdorf. The layout will be open for tours, onsite coal/brewery/tractor works clinics, and operating sessions both before and after the main RPM event. Mike has graciously offered to be open for early arrivals on Wednesday evening, Thursday Morning, and also remain open after the conference on Saturday Night. You can obtain more information and RSVP to Mike at nwpoca@hotmail.com

As a reminder, the $99/night rate at the Sheraton is good for the three days before and after the main event, so you can plan your visit accordingly and participate in these extra curricular activities.
